Dr. Germain, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, is the Principal Investigator of the Veterans Sleep and PTSD Research Program. Her current research program focuses on the assessment and treatment of sleep disorders and sleep disturbances that occur in the context of stress-related disorders in military veterans, with a special emphasis the treatment of nightmares and insomnia comorbid with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Her current efforts includes the investigation of the psychophysiological of these disorders during sleep, the development and testing of new and established interventions targeting insomnia and nightmares for military veterans, and the brain mechanisms that underlie sleep disturbances and the effects of sleep treatments on sleep quality and daytime functioning using brain imaging techniques.
